How is PIES Studio Hobby different from Bolt, Lovable or Cursor?

They solve different problems, and each one is good at its own.

Bolt and Lovable run in your browser. You describe an app, cloud AI models generate it, and they host it for you so you can share a link in minutes. The cloud models are large and fast, and that is their strength. Your prompts, code and data live in their cloud, and the free tiers have usage limits.

Cursor is an AI code editor. It helps developers write and change code with cloud models, in any language and any project. It does not build or run a whole application for you; you bring the project, the framework and the hosting.

PIES Studio Hobby is a free desktop app. It builds the whole application, not just the front end: the data model, screens, events and functions, sign-in and roles, documents and PDF, a mobile app and AI agents, all from one definition. It runs on your own computer with a real database, and its PIES Private AI Micro model runs there too, so nothing leaves your machine. You can export the source code and run it without PIES.

Where the others are better:

• Cloud AI is faster and more capable than a local model. Micro handles chat, questions over your data, small edits and building one screen, data model or event at a time. Whole-application builds in Hobby need your own cloud AI key, or PIES Enterprise or PIES Cloud.
• Bolt and Lovable give you instant hosting and a shareable link. Hobby runs apps locally; production deployment from the Studio is an Enterprise feature.
• Cursor works on any existing codebase. PIES builds PIES applications, though the exported code is standard and yours.

Where Hobby is better: it is free forever, works offline, keeps your data and your ideas on your machine, and produces a complete application with a database and sign-in rather than a prototype.
