FAQ · PIES Studio Hobby

Can I build apps with AI without sending my data to the cloud?

Yes. Most AI app builders run in a browser and send every prompt, every record and every line they generate to someone else’s cloud. PIES Studio Hobby runs on your own computer and includes PIES Private AI Micro, a language model that runs there too.

Micro makes no network calls. We test that on every release. Your brief, your data and the apps you build stay on your machine unless you connect a cloud model yourself, which is your choice, not the default.

Honest limits:

  • Micro is a small model. It is good at chat, questions over your data, in-app chatbots, small edits and building one screen, data model or event at a time. Whole-application builds need a bigger model: your own cloud AI key, or PIES Enterprise or PIES Cloud.
  • It needs 12 GB of memory (16 GB recommended) and runs fastest on Apple Silicon Macs.
  • Downloading Hobby needs a free PIES account. Using it does not.

For organisations, PIES Enterprise runs the same platform on your own servers, including air-gapped networks, with PIES LLM private models on your own hardware and every AI call governed and recorded.
